What to see in Le Marche:
from the sea to the hills!

Finis Africæ is Mirabilia Mundi: the wonders of the world, which we approach from the boundary between the familiar and the undiscovered, the known and the unknown. One of those wonders that we know intimately, and would like our guests to know about, is the territory in which we are located. We would like to take you on a journey to discover what to see in Le Marche, Lonely Planet's region for Best in Travel 2020.

Our area is a unique place to explore, with velvet beaches and calm seas but also gentle, sinuous hills, hiding priceless treasures of art, history, culture as well as food and wine. The charm of Le Marche lies also in its quiet and slow soul, to be explored calmly and in contemplation. Come to Finis Africæ to discover everything worth seeing, doing and visiting in the Marche region.

Here is what you should visit in the Marche:

Enchanted landscapes: nature parks and caves

Nature offers a multifaceted spectacle, with natural parks and enchanting caves. The Conero Park, for example, is a true paradise on the Adriatic, with a promontory that plunges into the sea, with forests, coves, and charming villages and hamlets. This park is perfect for trekkers or cyclists, with trails winding through the woods and glimpses of the sea. The Furlo Gorge Reserve also offers awe-inspiring routes, with its impressive walls and multitude of flowers and birds. If you want to take a trip into a hidden and enchanted universe, the Frasassi Caves have captivated hundreds of visitors since their accidental discovery. It is one of the largest natural caves in Europe, with stalagmites, stalactites, pillars, lakes and limestone blades of surprising and rare beauty.

The arts through the centuries: history and culture

There is much to remind us of the ancient and glorious past of the Marches, with its Roman roads and archaeological parks to retrace the steps of the ancients. Each era has left its mark: the Middle Ages dotted the territory with castles and fortresses, symbols of power and good governance. Le Marche was also one of the cradles of the Italian Renaissance. This is where Raphael was born, where the masterpieces of Lorenzo Lotto, Titian, Piero della Francesca and many other artists can be found, and where museums, ancient palaces and historic villas can be admired and explored. The region is home to beautiful villages, including Pergola, Mondolfo, Sassoferrato and many others, all considered among the most beautiful in Italy.

Flavours and fragrances: food and wine

The excellence of a territory as vast and varied as that of the Marches cannot but yield an equally full and articulated wealth. Wines have an important place among the typical products of the region: Verdicchio, from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes, light and fruity, but also Rosso Piceno, with its intense and multifaceted perfume, known since ancient times. On the table you will find Ascoli olives, ciauscolo, the soft IGP salami or the Fabriano salami, a presidium of slow food. Not to be outdone are vincisgrassi, known as 'lasagne Marche', and His Majesty the truffle, whose abundant presence in the region includes both white and black varieties. Last but not least, the production of aniseed liqueurs such as Anisetta Meletti and Varnelli.
